S-Town Chapter 1

Notice: Despite having 39 churches and it being a small town in the middle of Alabama, there is a lack of religious pressure and interest. It is leaning towards a theme of straying from God and witnessing the consequences, however to solidify this claim, I need to continue to read to see if there is any turning point in the plot that can be a biblical allusion.

Pattern: Overwhelming amounts of uncleanliness: no discussion of God, an abundance of mental health issues, worshiping of false idols (money), being lost in your own maze, corruption of law, drinking, tattoos, gossip, etc.

Contrast: There are 39 churches! Also there hasn't been a direct reference of God or interest so this might just be a dead-end interest/claim.

Feeling: A very scattered feeling. The overall tone is mysterious, borderline eerie.
